Public Forum: Thinking through the legacies of Myuran Sukumaran's case

Friday 31 August 2018

6-8.30pm

Bendigo Art Gallery - Exhibition of the works of Myuran Sukumaran, Another Day In Paradise

Curated by Ben Quilty and Michael Dagostino, Another Day In Paradise presents a vast and sobering series of powerful portraits by Sukumaran, painted during his incarceration at Bali’s Kerobokan jail and from his final incarceration on Nusa Kambangan Island.

Organised by Latrobe University, this is an opportunity to view the exhibition and enjoy refreshments and then attend a public forum with guest speakers including President of Reprieve, Julian McMahon. The public forum will take Myuran’s case as a point of departure to discuss the social and cultural consequences of the death sentence, alternative models of justice which favour restoration and reintegration, and the role of contemporary art in mediating these debates and promoting human rights.
